Optative Sentence কাকে বলে: Optative Sentence এর অর্থ হচ্ছে ইচ্ছা বা প্রার্থনাসূচক বাক্য। যে Sentence দ্বারা কোনো ইচ্ছা প্রকাশ করা হয় বা প্রার্থনা করা হয়, তাকে Optative Sentence বলে। অর্থাৎ, যে সকল কাজ মানুষের করার ক্ষমতার বাইরে, সে সকল কাজ কাউকে করতে বলা যায় না। সে ক্ষেত্রে আমরা কেবল ইচ্ছা প্রকাশ করতে পারি বা প্রার্থনা করতে পারি। এ ধরনের Sentence ই Optative Sentence.
Optative Sentence-এর উদাহরণ
- May you live long.
তুমি দীর্ঘজীবী হও।
Optative Sentence চেনার উপায়: Optative Sentence এর শুরুতে ‘May’ modal বসে। May বাদ দিলে Sentence টি Assertive form এ চলে যায়। প্রত্যেকটি Sentence কে আবার দু’ভাগে ভাগ করা যায়:
i) Affirmative (হ্যাঁ সূচক বাক্য) এবং
ii) Negative (না বোধক বাক্য)
Affirmative Sentence: কোনা বাক্যে ‘না’ বোধক কোনো শব্দ বা word থাকলেই উহা Negative Sentence এবং ‘না’ বোধক কোন শব্দ না থাকলেই উহা Affirmative Sentence.
Affirmative Assertive-এর উদাহরণ-
- He reads the book.
সে বই পড়ে। - He does not read the book-Negative.
সে বই পড়ে। - Does he read the book? – Affirmative Interrogative.
সে কি বইটি পড়ে? – - Dose he not read the book ? – Negative Interrogative.
সে কি বইটি পড়েনা? – - Shut the door. – Affirmative Imperative.
দরজাটি বন্ধ কর। - Do not shut the door. – Negative Imperative.
দরজাটি বন্ধ কর না।
Note: যে কোনো Sentence কে Negative করতে হলে auxiliary Verb এর পরে ‘no’ বা ‘not’ বসাতে হয়। যদি auxiliary Verb না থাকে (Present or Past Indefinite Tense এ) তবে do বা did এনে তারপরে not বসাতে হয় অথবা অন্য Negative Word (যেমন- Negative Adjective বা Adverb) দ্বারা ও Negative করা যায়। যেমনঃ I do not go. No man is Perfect ইত্যাদি।
Optative Sentence এর গঠন: সাধাণত তিনভাবে optative sentence বা প্রার্থনাসূচক বাক্য গঠন করা যায়।
১. May ব্যবহার করে:
May + Noun/ Pronoun + Verb + Others.
Example-উদাহরণ
- May you prosper in life.
আপনি জীবনে সফল হোন। - May She pass the exam with a good result.
সে পরীক্ষায় ভাল ফলাফল নিয়ে উত্তীর্ণ হোক। - May God give mercy upon you.
আল্লাহ আপনার প্রতি রহমত করুন। - May there be honesty in her family.
তার পরিবারে সততা থাকুক।
২. Wish ব্যবহার করে:
Wish + Noun/ Pronoun + Others.
Example-উদাহরণ
- Wish you a great result.
আপনার একটি দুর্দান্ত ফলাফল কামনা করি। - Wish you all the best.
আপনাকে শুভকামনা জানাই। - Wish him a good morning.
তাকে শুভ সকাল কামনা করি - Wish you a safe trip.
আপনার নিরাপদ ভ্রমণ কামনা করি।
৩. Long ব্যবহার করে
Long + verb + Noun/ Pronoun + Others.
Example-উদাহরণ
- Long live our leader.
আমাদের নেতা দীর্ঘজীবী হোন। - Long live our queen.
আমাদের রানী দীর্ঘজীবী হোক।
উল্লেখ্য, উপরের তিনটি গঠন প্রণালীর মাঝে প্রার্থনাসূচক বাক্যে May এর সবচেয়ে বেশি ব্যবহৃত হয়ে থাকে, আর Long ব্যবহৃত হয় সবচেয়ে কম।

শুভ কামনা। - Happy birthday to you.
তোমায় শুভ জন্মদিন। - May she pass the exam.
সে পরীক্ষায় উত্তীর্ণ হোক। - Live long her parents.
তার বাবা-মা দীর্ঘদিন বেঁচে থাকুন। - Have a great day!
শুভ দিন! - May Allah give you all the happiness!
আল্লাহ আপনাকে সকল সুখ দান করুন। - May her team win the match.
তার দল ম্যাচটি জিতুক। - I wish you passed the subject with the highest marks.
আমি আশা করি আপনি সর্বোচ্চ নম্বর নিয়ে বিষয়টি পাস করেছেন। - Best of luck with the event.
অনুষ্ঠানের জন্য শুভকামনা রইলো। - May you have a wonderful day.
আপনার একটি চমৎকার দিন কাটুক। - Would that I could travel the world.
আমি যদি পৃথিবী ভ্রমণ করতে পারতাম। - Would that it was sunny today.
যদি আজ রোদ থাকত। - May your dreams come true.
আপনার স্বপ্ন সত্যি হোক। - Would that we could live in peace.
যাতে আমরা শান্তিতে বসবাস করতে পারতাম। - May you have a safe and pleasant journey.
আপনার একটি নিরাপদ এবং মনোরম ভ্রমণ হোক। - Would that I could be with you right now.
আমি কি এই মুহুর্তে আপনার সাথে থাকতে পারতাম? - Would that the world were a more peaceful place.
যদি পৃথিবী আরও শান্তিপূর্ণ জায়গা হত। - May your life be filled with happiness and love.
আপনার জীবন সুখ এবং ভালবাসায় পরিপূর্ণ হোক। - Would that we could meet again someday.
আমরা কি একদিন আবার মিলিত হতে পারতাম? - May your birthday be filled with joy and celebration.
আপনার জন্মদিন আনন্দ এবং উদযাপনে পূর্ণ হোক। - Would that I had the power to change the past.
আমার যদি অতীতকে পরিবর্তন করার ক্ষমতা থাকত। - Would that we could always be together.
আমরা যদি সবসময় একসাথে থাকতে পারতাম।
