Completing Story Class-8: A Thirsty Crow and a Jar with Little Water: Once upon a time, a crow became very thirsty. It was summer and the weather was very hot. There was little water in that place. The crow flew here and there looking for water. But it could not find water anywhere. It seems that it was about to die for the thirst of water. But it did not lose heart.
The crow continued its search and found a pitcher beside a house. At once the crow went to the pitcher to have a drink from the pitcher. But it found that there was a little water at the bottom of the pitcher. The crow tried to drink water from the pitcher but failed. The water level was too far for the crow’s beak to reach.
The crow looked around. It tried to find out a good plan. After thinking a while, he found a way when he saw some stone near the pitcher. At once it hit upon a plan. It picked up the stones one by one and dropped them into the pitcher. After dropping a number of stones, the water level in the jar roses high enough to reach.
Now, the crow drank water to its satisfaction and quenched its thirst. Then it flew away in the sky with a contented mind. Thus the crow saved his life by the use of his ready wit.

একবার একটা কাক খুব তৃষ্ণার্ত হয়ে পড়ল। গ্রীষ্মকাল ছিল এবং আবহাওয়া খুব গরম ছিল। ওই জায়গায় সামান্য পানি ছিল। কাক এদিক ওদিক উড়ে পানি খুঁজতে থাকে। কিন্তু কোথাও পানি পাওয়া যায়নি। মনে হয় পানির পিপাসায় মারা যাওয়ার কথা। কিন্তু তাতে মনোবল হারাননি।
কাক তার অনুসন্ধান চালিয়ে গেল এবং একটি বাড়ির পাশে একটি কলস পেল। সঙ্গে সঙ্গে কাক কলসি থেকে পান খেতে কলসির কাছে গেল। কিন্তু দেখা গেল কলসির তলায় সামান্য পানি ছিল। কাক কলসি থেকে জল খাওয়ার চেষ্টা করল কিন্তু ব্যর্থ হল। জলের স্তর কাকের ঠোঁট পর্যন্ত পৌঁছানোর জন্য অনেক দূরে ছিল।
কাক চারদিকে তাকাল। এটি একটি ভাল পরিকল্পনা খুঁজে বের করার চেষ্টা. কিছুক্ষণ চিন্তা করার পর কলসির কাছে কিছু পাথর দেখতে পেয়ে সে একটা পথ পেল। সঙ্গে সঙ্গে এটি একটি পরিকল্পনা উপর আঘাত. একে একে পাথর তুলে কলসিতে ফেলে দিল।
বেশ কয়েকটি পাথর ফেলার পরে, জারের জলের স্তর পৌঁছানোর মতো যথেষ্ট উঁচু হয়ে ওঠে। এবার কাক তৃপ্তি সহকারে জল পান করে তৃষ্ণা নিবারণ করল। তারপর তৃপ্ত মন নিয়ে আকাশে উড়ে গেল। এইভাবে কাকটি তার প্রস্তুত বুদ্ধি ব্যবহার করে তার জীবন রক্ষা করে।
