Completing Story Class-8: Grasp All Lose All: One day a hungry dog was looking for food. He was walking to and fro to have some food. But he did not get any opportunity.
At last, he was wandering around a butcher’s shop and seeking opportunity to steal a piece of meat. After a while, the butcher went to wash room leaving his shop empty. The dog got a chance. He reached the shop quickly. He stole a piece of meat and ran away within a moment. The dog became happy to capture the piece of meat.
Now, he was looking for a safe place to eat it. On his way there was a small bridge over a canal. He started to cross the canal. The water of the canal was crystal clear. While crossing the bridge, the fox was enjoying the natural scenery. Suddenly, he looked at the water of the canal. There was reflection of the dog in the static clean water of the canal. The dog thought that another dog with a piece of meat was walking there.
So, he stopped to see the other dog clearly. He shook his face and the dog under the bridge also shook his face. The dog was sure about the other dog. The greedy dog became so much curious to have the piece of meat.
So, he barked at his reflection. Soon, his own piece fell into the water. To get it back, he jumped into the canal. But he failed to regain it. After hard labour he got on the bank of the canal and thought himself, “Grasp all, lose all”.

একদিন একটি ক্ষুধার্ত কুকুর খাবার খুঁজছিল। সে কিছু খাবারের জন্য এদিক ওদিক হাঁটছিল। কিন্তু কোনো সুযোগ পাননি তিনি। শেষ পর্যন্ত, সে একটি কসাইয়ের দোকানে ঘুরে বেড়াচ্ছিল এবং এক টুকরো মাংস চুরি করার সুযোগ খুঁজছিল।
কিছুক্ষণ পর কসাই তার দোকান খালি রেখে ওয়াশরুমে চলে গেল। কুকুরটি সুযোগ পেয়েছে। তাড়াতাড়ি দোকানে পৌঁছে গেল। সে এক টুকরো মাংস চুরি করে মুহূর্তের মধ্যে পালিয়ে যায়। কুকুরটি মাংসের টুকরোটি ধরে খুশি হয়ে উঠল।
এখন, তিনি এটি খাওয়ার জন্য একটি নিরাপদ জায়গা খুঁজছিলেন। তার পথে একটি খালের উপর একটি ছোট সেতু ছিল। সে খাল পার হতে থাকে। খালের পানি ছিল টলটলে। সেতু পার হওয়ার সময় প্রাকৃতিক দৃশ্য উপভোগ করছিল শিয়াল। হঠাৎ খালের পানির দিকে তার নজর পড়ে। খালের স্থির পরিষ্কার জলে কুকুরের প্রতিফলন ছিল। কুকুরটি ভেবেছিল যে মাংসের টুকরো নিয়ে আরেকটি কুকুর সেখানে হাঁটছে।
তাই, সে অন্য কুকুরটিকে স্পষ্ট দেখতে থেমে গেল। সে মুখ নাড়ল আর ব্রিজের নিচের কুকুরটাও মুখ নাড়ল। কুকুরটি অন্য কুকুর সম্পর্কে নিশ্চিত ছিল। লোভী কুকুরটি মাংসের টুকরোটি পেতে খুব আগ্রহী হয়ে উঠল।
তাই, সে তার প্রতিবিম্বে ঘেউ ঘেউ করল। শীঘ্রই, তার নিজের টুকরা জলে পড়ে. তা ফেরাতে তিনি খালে ঝাঁপ দেন। কিন্তু তিনি তা ফিরে পেতে ব্যর্থ হন। কঠোর পরিশ্রমের পর খালের পাড়ে উঠে সে মনে মনে ভাবল, “অতি লোভে তাঁতি নষ্ট”।
