Completing Story Class-8: Honesty is the Best Policy: Once upon a time there was a poor farmer in a village. Though he was poor he was very honest. One day he was going to his land. On his way to the land he found a purse. He opened the purse and found that it was full of gold.
The farmer was surprised to see the purse of gold. Soon he returned home with the purse. Out of curiosity, he showed his wife the purse of gold though he knew that his wife was a greedy woman. The farmer asked his wife what he should do.
His wife suggested him to go to any goldsmith to sell the gold. Thus they would become rich. The farmer did not agree with his wife. There continued a bit quarrel between the husband and wife for a while. The farmer was so strict in his honesty. His wife became angry and left the place.
The farmer decided to return the purse to its real owner. But he did not know the address of the owner. The farmer was intelligent. He emptied the purse and searched far and wide to find out the address of the owner.
Fortunately, he found the address and went to the house of the owner. He handed over the purse to the owner. The owner of the purse became very happy and offered some money to the farmer. The farmer refused to take money and said that it was his responsibility to do the job and returned home.
The farmer’s wife said to him, “What reward were you given for your great job?” “Nothing.” replied the farmer. His wife started scolding him. The farmer said, “I haven’t been rewarded in this world but certainly I’ll be rewarded in the world here after by the almighty.

একদা এক গ্রামে এক দরিদ্র কৃষক ছিল। দরিদ্র হলেও তিনি ছিলেন অত্যন্ত সৎ। একদিন সে তার জমিতে যাচ্ছিল। দেশে যাওয়ার পথে তিনি একটি পার্স দেখতে পান। মানিব্যাগটা খুলে দেখলেন তাতে সোনা ভর্তি।
সোনার মানিব্যাগ দেখে অবাক কৃষক। কিছুক্ষণের মধ্যেই পার্স নিয়ে বাড়ি ফিরলেন। কৌতূহলবশত, তিনি তার স্ত্রীকে সোনার মানিব্যাগটি দেখালেন যদিও তিনি জানতেন যে তার স্ত্রী একজন লোভী মহিলা। কৃষক তার স্ত্রীকে জিজ্ঞেস করলেন তার কি করা উচিত।
তার স্ত্রী তাকে সোনা বিক্রি করার জন্য যেকোনো স্বর্ণকারের কাছে যাওয়ার পরামর্শ দেন। এভাবে তারা ধনী হবে। কৃষক তার স্ত্রীর সাথে রাজি হননি। এ নিয়ে স্বামী-স্ত্রীর মধ্যে বেশ কিছুক্ষণ ঝগড়া চলে। কৃষক তার সততায় এত কঠোর ছিল। এতে তার স্ত্রী রাগান্বিত হয়ে স্থান ত্যাগ করেন।
কৃষক তার আসল মালিকের কাছে পার্স ফেরত দেওয়ার সিদ্ধান্ত নিয়েছে। কিন্তু মালিকের ঠিকানা তিনি জানতেন না। কৃষক বুদ্ধিমান ছিল। মানিব্যাগটা খালি করে দূর-দূরান্তে খোঁজ করলেন মালিকের ঠিকানা।
সৌভাগ্যবশত সে ঠিকানা খুঁজে পেয়ে মালিকের বাড়িতে গেল। পার্সটি মালিকের হাতে তুলে দেন। পার্সের মালিক খুব খুশি হলেন এবং কৃষককে কিছু টাকা দিলেন। কৃষক টাকা নিতে অস্বীকৃতি জানিয়ে কাজটি তার দায়িত্ব বলে বাড়ি ফিরে যান।
কৃষকের স্ত্রী তাকে বললেন, “তোমার মহান কাজের জন্য তোমাকে কী পুরস্কার দেওয়া হয়েছিল?” “কিছুই না।” কৃষক উত্তর দিল। তার স্ত্রী তাকে বকাঝকা করতে থাকে। কৃষক বললো, “আমি এই পৃথিবীতে পুরস্কৃত হইনি কিন্তু পরমেশ্বরের দ্বারা অবশ্যই আমি পুরস্কৃত হব।
